This is my favourite post of yours--which is probably why it took me so long to comment on it!
Haha, the harmonica theme...I must admit I was worried that you wouldn't come up with something you actually liked...that you would find a song, but it would be like, meh, at least it fits the theme. When I saw that you had chosen "Isn't She Lovely" my first thought was, there's a harmonica in that song. And then OH YEAH, there totally is.
I like that this song is so...positive. It's upbeat, but I feel it doesn't have the cheese-quality of "I Just Called to Say I Love You". I like that this positive song is associated with a happy memory for you. I dig that harmonica solo.
You know, I don't think I ever REALLY listened to the lyrics of this song. What a beautiful song from a father to a daughter. I love the simplicity of the lyrics--but it's like the sign of a good song when the lyrics seem more complex than they really are.
Thanks for sharing this song, dude, and more importantly, thanks for sharing this memory. Who knew the harmonica could be such a catalyst (not exactly the right word, but what the heck, I'm using it anyway).
Aside: We had a Music Room in the basement too. All my dad's guitars were there, and his recording equipment, the record collection and, of course, the stereo.
