Old Flame
Artist: Kimbra
Album: Vows
Year: 2011
♥: This song was instant, in a way music hasn't really been, recently. Not by fault of my life, but by fault of the music I'm listening to (or the lack thereof). But -- I really wanted to love this album. I love Kimbra's voice, love what her vibe comes off as, but I didn't love it. I was sad: maybe I'd almost expected another Florence-type experience, something desperate and undeniable?
But then, through the painting haze, came Old Flame. It had nothing to do with the lyrics or the context -- I would have loved this song regardless. It was instant, it was ideal -- in its way. It's one of those songs I know that, at 16 or 26, I would respond to. And it's nice, in all the changes, all the chaos, to have those little musical referents to which to return. The mark of a Jill-song may shift, but the core of it -- that indescribable something -- will never leave.
Old Flame. Music is one of my oldest.
