Manhattan
Cat Power
Sun
2012
Cat Power! I love her! I've wanted to post something of hers for awhile and, suddenly, now is the time and "Manhattan" is the track.
AH! THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL!
Her voice. Her voice.
The words. The words:
People come and people go
All the friends that we used to know
Ain't coming back
The piano that steadies everything; carries the song and the story along. Every plink sounds like a raindrop hitting a puddle.
The second time she says, "your heart has a rhythm" when those perfectly timed drums come in--on top of the the rollicking bassline that tumps throughout.
I love that this song doesn't build and explode. It's like you're expecting it to--to build to an intense pitch--but then it doesn't. It has the effect of making every hit of the drum that much more--like a difibulator shocking a heart. It is quietly intense.
This song makes me crazy. It stirs everything up.
Just listen. I can't quite do it justice.
